The International Student Exchange places highly screened students from over 40 countries around the world into homes all across the US.
Students are here for educational purposes and to experience our culture. They are all high school students and are here for either half a school year, or the full school year. We also have students who are here for a full calendar year.
All students have full health insurance and bring plenty of money to cover all of their expenses while they are here. This includes all school and sports costs, meals outside of the home- including school lunches, and any activity or shopping that they want to do. Students are expected to follow family rules, have chores, do community service and maintain their grades in school.
Area Representatives seek out locals who would make great families for these students. Families are background checked and screened. There is no cost for the background check or to host a student. Families do not have to meet certain income requirements or qualifications. They can be single parents, empty nesters, have young kids, or no kids at all.
We ask that families share meals inside the home and provide a bedroom with a bed for the student. The bedroom can be shared with someone within a four year age range. There should also be adequate study space, either in the students bedroom or another area of the house.
Families should treat their student as a member of their family and not a guest. Include them in all family gatherings and celebrations, teach them the American culture and also take an active interest in learning about the students culture.
Families aren't just given any student to host. They get to look over profiles of all available students and pick one, or two, that will be the best match. There's a choice of age, sex, country, religion, areas of interests and even if they play a particular sport. They can also choose the students length of stay. (Half year, school year, or calander year).
