Sweet Melissa Music
People say if you find something you LOVE to do, then it won’t feel like work! Melissa says, “I can definitely attest to that statement! Singing for a crowd gives me more happiness and joy than I have ever felt doing anything else! There’s simply no better feeling than looking out at my audience and watching their expression of emotions. Whether it’s happiness, sorrow, or love, touching someone through music is simply magical!”
Melissa discovered her gift and love for singing at a very young age. Back then it was an outlet for her to let out her emotions and find comfort. In elementary school kids had to try out for a certain music class and it was then when the music teacher breathed another form of confidence in her about her singing. She pursued singing all throughout school and church from chorus, to ensembles, to solos. At this time she began singing at weddings and karaoke for fun. This is where she built more confidence and ease behind the mic and in front of her audience.
Melissa started singing the National Anthem at the Jackie Robinson Stadium for the Daytona Cubs and that’s where she fell in love with performing for a crowd like that. It wasn’t until she won a local singing contest back in 2007 called Daytona Discovered, a new dream had sparked in her. It was at this momentshe knew she wanted to be a professional singer.
Another contest caught her attention when she heard the winner was going to get to perform the National Anthem televised racing event at the Daytona International Speedway. Landing in the top 5 her performance was recorded and she was selected to sing at another race later that year. Since then she has continued performing our National Anthem for close to 10 years now. She has had the honor to perform for many Nascar and other Speedway events, including The Rolex 24, The Lucas Oil, and The Clash of Daytona. All of which are nationally televised as well
A few years ago while singing karaoke her Stepfather asked her, “why are you not singing for a living?” She explained, it was because she didn’t have equipment that was needed. To her surprise her Stepfather had so generously bought her everything she needed to start her new career. Melissa stated this was one of the most touching gifts she has ever received! Soon after she started acquiring venues that fit her style of music. Before long she will be heading in to the studio to work on writing and recording some of her own songs.
Melissa performs multiple genres of easy-listening cover songs from the 60’s to today. Her song choices are influenced by Etta James, Adele, and Carrie Underwood, just to name a few. You can find her performing at local venues such as: 95 and Vine in Port Orange on Dunlawton, The Uncaged Tasting Room in The Hammock in Flagler, and every Saturday (6p-10p) at Stonewoods Grill and Tavern on LPGA in Daytona Beach.
