Singer/songwriter, “Sweet William”, Billy Ennis and harmonist “Jammin’Jim” Coons blend acoustic guitars and sing original compositions including “Coming Home”. Both, Veterans of the Vietnam Era, “Coming Home” reflects a generation’s regrets. His songs include ballads, blues, country and island flavors and cover a range of topics from love to war. The song “Blew Country” describes an old fashioned hootenanny where the “wind blew Country”.
The Blew Country Duo includes classic Country, Rock, Folk and Island cover songs in their show, something to please everyone. Sweet William relates “Stories and Songs” that highlight interesting little know facts about well known songs.
Both Jim and Billy are long time residents of Palatka, Florida and are U.S. Army Veterans. Ennis played drums with the 25th Infantry Division Band on returning from duty in 1971 with the 500th Military Intelligence out of Saigon and detached to Okinawa for counter intelligence. He formed and played bass for several bands over the past twenty years including Deuce Fifty a Doo-Wop group and Blue Smoke and the Smokin’ Blue Horns. Blue Smoke performed several times at the Palatka Blue Crab Fest, Vet Fest, Catholic Cathedral Festival and the Azalea Festival as well as at the St Johns, Putnam and Flagler County Fairs.
Jim served in Vietnam and retired in Palatka from Ma Bell. Coons would be singing leads and harmonies and playing guitar with his church for over 30 years. Jim joined the Downtown Blues Jam Band around 2010 and met Billy (the former owner of Downtown Blues in Palatka). The jam band became the “Blew Country Band” and placed 9th at the 2013 St Johns River Blues Festival. After the sad closing of Downtown Blues in 2014, Jim and Billy formed the Duo. Blew Country competed in The Surf 97.3 Radio and Finn’s Flagler Beach song writers completion last April and was runner up. The rest, as they say, is history!
